The full weight and measure of this moment in time will not be felt for years; we are standing in the midst of history and we will only be able to truly know what we have experience when we are recounting the events of yesterday to our children and grandchildren.
However, after the excitement of the moment has faded and after we have enjoyed this moment just for a while, we must all remember that there is much more to be done. Last night I was surrounded by friends, connected throughout the nation and the world through the pictures that we were all watching, and I heard those words being said, “Yes we can.” Those words then turned into “Yes we did.” I hope that we all remember that the sweet victory that we have experience should only sharpen are focus that there is much more to be done on the horizon. Our mantra has not changed. We must all now validate our accomplishment with the change that we seek.
We have all worked toward this together; however, this singular achievement is only an opportunity. There is a chance to do something truly great together, but there is still a very long road ahead.
The election of the first African-American President does not end racism; we must all continue to struggle to further anti-racist causes and continue to fight to bring racial equality and social justice to America. This election did not bring an end discrimination bases on sexual orientation; we must continue to education people and create more allies for the GLBT community and fight for human rights for all people no matter what their sexual orientation.
The nomination of the first women for the Republican vice presidential candidate and the historic campaign of another woman for the Democratic nomination did not end sexism and discrimination because of gender; we must continue to join our daughter, sisters, and mothers in the fight for gender equality and the protection of the right of a woman to choose.
This election did not bring about the peace that we must all seek in the world, nor did it bring about the understanding that all of us must have to coexist together on this planet.
This is our moment. This is our time.
Yes we can, begins today.

It was a wonderful and historic night. Unfortunately, some of our BCS brethren and reacting very hatefully. Have you read the comments on KBTX? Where do people come up with this stuff?
Aside from all that, for the first time in a long time, I can honestly say I'm proud of our country. We did an amazing thing yesterday. Now to work on California. Prop 8 passed? Ugh. Our next battle has already revealed itself...
